'I don't trust it, Luna. There's something going on that you're not telling me.'

'Maybe...'

'Don't 'maybe' me! What is it?'

'Oh well, there's school. Gotta go!'

Luna Oakley's whole life is quite abnormal. She's just a normal teenager with constant mood swings, oversleeping tendencies, a sister obsessed with celebrities, insecurities about herself, and a weird longing (not a crush!) for this guy at school. Her foster family seems to be fine with her and she has a great best friend.

Yet... She just feels distant from everything. She should feel happy and adapt to this lifestyle, but there has always been a void of darkness lingering within her mind. Hair and eyes lacking pigment and a horrifying nightmare repeating itself over and over, Luna realises one thing: She doesn't remember anything before her supposed parents were murdered four years ago. Her whole existence at that time just seems... Unreal.

However, the truth starts to unfold ever so slightly when she develops dangerous, unknown powers and a serial killer known as 'Death's Scythe' comes into the picture. Risking her life, facing Karens head-on and sacrificing friendships, everything Luna regarded as 'normal' is thrown into the trash as she searches for who she really is.

"You ungrateful bitch. I keep a roof over your head, and this is the thanks I get?" "You could have killed her," I retort, trying to muster up confidence that I don't possess. "What if she goes to the cops, Dad? That bruise on her face is enough to get you arrested and charged with assault." "What? You mean when she tripped over the mess you made in the kitchen?" His smile is so wicked that it chills me to my core. "She ain't going to the cops. Hell, she'll probably be back here tomorrow." "You're a bastard," I whisper, tears filling my eyes. "No wonder Mom left! She probably couldn't bear to spend another second with-" I'm pushed to the floor. I scramble backwards as he approaches me, his cheeks scarlet with rage, his pupils the size of needle points. In fourteen years, I've never seen him this mad. I've really done it this time. -------------------- (COMPLETED) Life is hard when nowhere feels like home. For Layla Dodds, there is only one goal: survival. Certainly they could trust that those in power ultimately had the best interests of the people in mind, right? ~~~ Luna slouched low in her seat, staring at droplets of water that ran diagonally down the window of the bus. The sky was a flat, depressing grey and the incessant, soaking rain left her constantly chilled. It was a typical "liquid sunshine" day in the Pacific Northwest. They drove past a single tall scraggly tree on top of a hill shrouded in mist. The creepy tree was full of screaming crows. How could she hear them from inside the bus when she couldn't even seem to hear the voices of the kids around her? Geez, that was an awfully freaking dark image. She shivered and looked away. What did they call a group of crows again? Right, a murder of crows. Perfect. The weather was certainly the only thing that was typical these days, although you'd never know it by looking around the bus at most of the kids as they sat joking and gossiping with each other just like they had before... before that day everything had changed. Idiots.
