A betrayed Vessel was pushed down the fountain as a sacrifice to the Pale King in hopes he would return. Killing her fueled the Radiance's anger and the Infection began to spread faster, and take more violent control over it's hosts' bodies.
This continued until the little knight arrived and put an end to the "Light that Plagued their Dreams."
But when the hero died something much more unexpected happened, a wyrm of void and god appeared in the Ancient Basin, with the knowledge of things that had happened before, claiming to be the Vessel the old king's followers pushed down the fountain.

I just wanted to write this....

Technically this is finished. But I've left it marked "Ongoing" just in case I decide to add joke chapters to it.

"You can devour the light with your darkness, but you will never extinguish its brightness. You can create the perfect vessel, a container of absolute darkness, but there is something you can never create. A container empty. Well, everything that crawls, flies or walks will always... always have a soul. And every soul can be corrupted." Last words of Monomon, the teacher, to the White King before falling into her deep sleep. The Hollow Knight has been replaced. The Radiance that swept through the channels of so much of the kingdom, now it's just a nightmare of days of the past. The knight, after his long journey, took his place as the new Hollow Knight, and now he rests in his eternal litigation to contain the rot that lives in his inside. Along. Inside the Temple of the Black Egg. An eternal condemnation from which he could never escape. But if one thing is certain, it is that, unlike meat, light can never be devoured. Now. For those of you who have already finished the game and were drawn by the poetic introduction, there are a few things I want to clarify so that you can understand this story. 1 - This story takes place between the events of the original game and the Hornet prequel. 2 - This story was made before the release of the prequel, so I apologize in advance if something doesn't match the lore in the future. 3 - The ending chosen was in which the knight is sealed with the Radiance inside the temple of the Black Egg and Hornet survives. What the fans call ending #1. 4 - The events of the Soul of Steel mode do not apply 5 - The seeker of gods was never found 6 - Zote was not rescued and died at the start of the game. (I know this seems silly, but believe me when I say that this will be the first link in the butterfly effect that will develop this entire plot) With everything clarified given the large number of possible endings, we begin with the story.

For ages she has been incapabel to help those children of hers outside her Universe, the so-called Dark Sanses, the Guardian of Negativity, the God of Destruction and those under their protection, has to watch them beign hurt over and over again from the hands of their Universes or by the hand of the self preclaimed protectors of the Multiverse, the Star Sanses. When Destiny comes to her with a plan to put them in a safe place, she inmediatly agrees. Meanwhile, in another Multiverse, other Void God makes a deal with the ruler of Hallownest. The Pale King would give him back ALL of his children and then he would help him against the Infection caused by the Moth godness. So he is very confused (and a bit mad) when months later he can feel six more children enter to Hallownest without an explication.
