Zelda is alone in the world. She lives alone in the woods, and takes care of her mother's shop. The people of Northester aren't exactly favorable with her, knowing that her mother was a witch and hung at the gallows for it when she was only 9. While she struggles to help the few openminded souls in the superstitious town, her long time love and best friend lets her know he won't be able to court her, so long as she keeps the shop open. The church sees this as an extension of her mother's powers through her daughter, even beyond the grave. But she won't close.
Despite being the town's outcast, Zelda is seeing strange signs and bad omens of a pending doom. Crows where crows don't normally roam. A strange shadow like creature stalks her in the night. People grow more and more afraid, and the church is seriously considering putting her to trial if she doesn't bend to their will.
When a stranger comes to town to challenge her ideals and those of Northester, things might just change for the better.
