Jennie is in desperate need of a fresh start during her freshman year of college after experiencing regret and witnessing a horrific high school tragedy. At university, she meets her new roommate, Amira, an Iraqi girl studying in America. Together, these two young students learn about each other's differing cultures, religions, values, and the lives they leave behind them. However, one event sparks a strong desire in Jennie's old, stubborn ways to help her new friend's victimized family in Iraq, which will put both girls' lives and safety at risk.
