The Answer at the X
Siblings Isobel and Simon are on the last leg of a journey that started before they were even born. Faded words on a scrap of paper drove their parents to leave the safety of their home. To search for meaning in a dying mans words. Generations ago, something happened that changed the world. Levelled cities. Killed billions. The note is all that remains, containing a single message to those left behind. «We tried too hard to save the world» 'The Answer at the X' is a short story set in a post-apocalyptic world a lot like our own. The story is part of the Legacy Collection, a series-in-planning of short stories and novellas set in this world, that may eventually shed some light on what actually happened when it all came crashing down. --------------------------------------------- I'll be posting this story over the next weeks. The Island
"This is The Island, a prison designed for minors like me- too young to be executed, too old to be reformed, and too much of a stain on humanity to let exist. It was 'the answer' to the growing crime rate resulting from a world that was falling apart. The details evade me, but there is one thing I know. The water doesn't seem as scary as it did before." When Jordyn wakes up in the middle of a tropical forest in the mouth of a cat too big to be real, she decides this isn't how she wants to die. The Island has other plans, though. It was designed to kill her, and it will bring out every gun in the arsenal to do so. Her life becomes a game of survival from the mutant and venomous animals, severe temperature changes, and impossible weather scenarios that exist in this government manufactured prison. The twist? She has no idea who she is, where she came from, or why she committed first-degree arson. In this mixture of "The Hunger Games" and "Maze Runner", Jordyn has to unravel the truth before nature kills her- or die not knowing. Jared Cooper is sixteen and already knows one truth better than most: survival means nothing if you lose yourself along the way. When a scavenging run leads Jared to an unconscious young girl left for dead, he makes a choice that puts him at odds with protocol, leadership, and the people who believe compassion is a liability. Saving her was only the beginning. Keeping her alive may cost more than he's prepared to lose. As the undead close in and secrets about the world beyond the Center begin to surface, Jared is forced to confront what it really means to protect someone in a world that punishes kindness...and whether hope is worth the risk. Because in the end, the Omega Virus didn't just destroy the world. It tested who was willing to care when it mattered most.Complete

Just a note: this story was inspired by The Maze Runner (Movie and Book series!) and Total Drama! Basically a AU with all the Total Drama Characters! But depends which ones. The one and only host, Chris McLean, has decided to Organize a Organization in which he calls it "TD-WCKD". (Kinda based off of WCKD!) but he has one thing to "care": the Teens of Total Drama. Soon, The Glade for a Group is set up. Who will be in it? We will see. (By the way! The Glade will involved the Half of Gen 1 and Gen 2 cast and it will include my OCs but in future parts!)
