Fifteen-year-old Cameron Drexler made a mistake. A simple, honest, and very illegal mistake. Knowing his son's actions could derail his career, Cam's father, Congressman David Drexler, has him shipped off to Maplethorn Academy.
Not quite a prison and not quite a school, Maplethorn is a place where the wealthy and well-connected lock away boys who are lawbreakers, troublemakers, or simply unwanted. But when his roommate disappears, Cam fears Maplethorn is hiding a darker secret.
Caught looking for answers in a part of the academy that is off-limits to cadets, Cam is pressured into volunteering for a new type of behavioral therapy. At first, he doesn't feel any different. That is until he discovers he can send a paper airplane shooting across the room without touching it.
Welcome to Maplethorn.
The people of Lancet Falls, Idaho are changing, and it's all because of an otherworldly light that only a few can see, but the changes are affecting everyone. Animals are dying, people are disappearing, and what's with the men in jackets twenty years out of date showing up in the dead of night? A homeless drunk, a twelve year old from the city, a fat extortionist, a high school science teacher, and a reporter are the first to feel its effects. They're able to do things that no human should be able to do, but will it be enough? Will their newfound abilities be enough to save the town from a threat to its very reality?
