Noah suffers from a serious fear of being touched, and touching other people. Nobody has ever been able to change that, and has to isolate himself as much as possible so that he doesn't hurt them. Because when people care about you, they want to touch you. When he realized he was gay, it terrified him. Now he's not only the freak who can't touch, he's the gay freak who can't touch. So he's bullied all the time. It doesn't take much to really terrify Noah- just brushing up against him does it most of the time. So when he meets the new kid, Leo, he assumes he'll lose his only friend once his reputation gets to him. But Leo doesn't react the way Noah expects him to- he wants to help him. To get him past this terror that's holding him back from his entire life. The only problem is that Noah doesn't even want to try. When you spend that long in the night, daylight becomes the thing you fear most.
