On the 31st of December there was always a dawn, there was always Emmeline, and there were always tears. The day Emmeline turns twenty-one marks the return of the darkness that took her parents when she was ten. What begins with a rough night out ends with a home invasion and a visit to A&E, and now the police want to speak with her.

As her fractured world descends into even greater chaos, Emmeline decides to run. But instead of running away, she finds herself running straight into the arms of the coming storm.
