Jessie Duvall is a woman in her early 60's who lives in a house boat on a Louisiana bayou. She attracts attention wherever she goes for she wears an floppy sun hat, a long, vibrant print dress, carries a cane made of birch wood and a parrot name Cocoa rides on her shoulder. She is loved by everyone who knows her, especially by a clever, high spirited thirteen year old girl named Esther Riggley who lives next door. Jessie and Esther have many adventures together. You never know what can happen on a bayou.
