Nico di Angelo and his friends Frank, Leo, and Hazel are the biggest weirdos at his school. Leo gets thrown in the trash, Frank gets a wedge weekly, Hazel has spit balls in her hair, and Nico is in the Principle office constantly for beating the asses of the people who hurt his friends. Most people are scared of him beside his friends and Will Solace a guy that comes to his locker every single morning. Nico has tried everything to get Will away from him, but he keeps coming back every time. Nico soon realizes that he has a crush on Will but he won't show it. What if Will didn't like him back?

After everything horrible that has happened to him, he's slowly getting better with the help of Will and his friends. Will Solace finally got the boy of his dreams. The boy he had a crush on since he was 11 years old. He's starting to realize that he isn't as useless as he thinks he is, and that he's actually worth something. Everything is going great for a while. But just like it always is for demigods, nothing good ever lasts. The death of Nico's first and closest friend Jason Grace puts a sudden end to the sunshine that currently brightens Nico's life for once. His death triggers a lot of things for him, and shines light on a lot of his unresolved trauma. Will Nico be able to make it through this without his mental stability completely breaking once and for all? Will Nico be able to let people in enough to help him get through it? And what about the mysterious dreams that Nico keeps having of his mom? And who really is this little girl that knows nothing about her past? In this sequel to Out of the Shadows, Nico sees familiar faces and revisits past places, but at least this time he has Will along for the ride.
