"You wouldn't dare," I said. I knew Jake was lying. 
"Oh, but wouldn't I?" He was lying. He had to be. You can't just make that all up. 

Or maybe he did make it all up. And everything was just a lie. Everything that I felt...that was just a big joke to him. I wanted to believe that he was lying. But it took 2 seconds of looking in his dark brown eyes. I wasn't home to him. I was just another perfectly decorated house.

This is the story of Lana. A sixteen-year-old girl with divorced parents that live on opposite sides of the country. They really can't stand each other. They divorced 2 years ago and her mom had jumped right back into dating, but her dad was still struggling with the divorce and spent his days wallowing in self-pity.
