" What would you do if they went away?"

That was the question Daphne asked herself every time she was faced with another ghost putting her in another predicament. She had started seeing them when she was 5 and over time more and more of them came around. Some were nice and friendly and some made it their mission to haunt her every minute. So when she was taken to a world she didn't understand and was told that she could get the ghosts taken away from her she didn't know whether to jump to the chance or back away from it.

Daphne does have some help with this matter in the forms of her pet ghost raven Jean and A ghost named Juliette but she soon sees that not every ghost is good or bad and that what she's asking for might be better then what will eventually come to fruition. Join Daphne BlackThorne as she encounters the world of the Celestium, the ghosts she must help transition to the afterlife, and the friends she has on earth.

Artemis Rhodes had been working a shift at her minimum-wage waitressing job when two unfairly attractive patrons handed her a flyer inscribed with only a phone number. They told her a better job awaited her, and they left a generous tip. A promise. An English degree and school debt equivalent to half a house haunted Artemis more than any real ghost she'd never seen. After all, as an over-qualified waitress with her rented room in the city, alone, watching Netflix, ghosts were rarely a problem, but bills were downright damning. At least, until she dialed the number and spoke to Michelle, an owner of two businesses: ghost-hunting, and The Secret Hotel, an upscale companion service that catered privately to actors, politicians, entrepreneurs, and anyone with money. The two men Artemis served were not only part of the ghost-hunting team, but also companions. The job of Michelle's personal assistant would end the fear of bills, but bring the supernatural into her life like never before, beginning with an illegally kept ghost named Skylar who protected the companions from ill-mannered clientele. As an Empath, every sound and every glimpse of naked flesh, even the sensation of lust in the air, consumes her. But she can also connect with ghosts and become a prime member of the hunting team. She has a chance to conquer her fears of the world, of herself, and to let others conquer her in ways she never knew she wanted-as long as they survive their ghost-hunting missions. (For ages 18+. When Bryony -- herbalist extraordinaire -- goes missing, Bella knows one suspect stands above the rest. The village's aspiring second witch, Daphne, comes from a family that's tried to take Bryony down before, and Daphne seems determined to carry on that legacy. For someone who's always been terrified of Bryony, she's a little too keen on looking into the disappearance. There's just one problem. Bella's insufferable fellow familiar thinks the kid is innocent... and he's been right about worse things before. If Daphne herself is to be believed, clues on the disappearance lead a whole lot closer to home than Bella would like. As the evidence mounts, Bella must choose to either stand by her values and the woman who raised her, or seek what might be a truth she would rather not uncover. Prompt #81: The town's witch has gone missing and no one is looking for her but her two familiars - a crow and a black cat, plus the teen who has always been scared of her. ❖❖❖ Written for Wattpad's 2024 Open Novella Contest.
