I cursed the gods as I fell, anger and fear twisting in my chest. "Is this the fate you had in mind for me?! I'm going to die today, and NOTHING will ever come of my life! Your CHOSEN is worth nothing to you!"
Tears streamed up my face, and I steeled myself for the inevitable. As I fell, I caught sight of the landscape below-a beautiful forest, rolling valleys, waterfalls, and lakes. It was breathtaking, and I felt a pang of regret that I might never set foot on that ground.
I tried spreading my wings again, but the pain was unbearable. As the ground rushed up to meet me, I saw a lake almost directly below me. I could only hope it was deep enough to break my fall. With one final, desperate effort, I slowed my descent just enough to aim for the center of the water.
"Gods! PLEASE SAVE ME!" I screamed, my voice torn from my throat as I hit the water with a bone-shattering force. The impact knocked the breath from my lungs, and everything went black as I sank into the depths.
