World of Wings

This story takes place in a world where everyone has wings no matter race or origin. These wings play a major role in society for they can help you make friends and impress your mate. Wings are often based on bird wings though there is the rarity where wings are either based on mythical beings such as dragons or pheonixs or based on no being at all. Certain colors are also rare, such as gold, silver, bronze, metallics, solid black or white and of course two wings being two different colors. In this world you can either get lucky or unlucky with your wings. There is also a soulmate system, when you come of age (18) you are able to find your soulmate. Normally the way to know if the person is your soulmate or not is by a pull, nobody really knows how to explain this pull. It's just normally said to be a tug towards a certain person. When two soulmates confirm one is the other's mate a special feather will appear on the two mates wings, this feather will never disappear unless a mate dies or rejects you. The feather also often matches the color of the mate's wings feathers.

Kaelan Regan is a 17 year old highschooler, his 18th birthday is in a few weeks. You would think he would be ecstatic to find his mate, but he's not. He was unlucky as most say with his wings, small, weak and ugly. He is afraid that when he finds his mate that he will be rejected because of his pathetic wings. He is also gay, so the fear of getting a female as a mate is also high. What will happen on his 18th birthday and when he feels a pull to a certain popular kid in school?
