Hayami Amano was about equivalent to a speck of dust, in the grand frame of things. Born to a shop-owner who died in a fire just the day after she was born. Born to a mother who succumbed to madness and ended her own life on Hayami's third birthday.
"Free yourself, Hayami." had been her mothers last words.
However, freedom is next to impossible, in a world where the Powerless are at the mercy of the Gifted. She's spent her whole life crushed under the boot of the King, scurrying around her Common city and living off of what she could take by herself. Until one day, forced to kneel at the foot of the enemy, a vial of poison held to her lips, she's told a secret and given a choice.

Elves are immortal, except death by battle or poison. Yet, despite that fact, Starlyn’s mother is dying, and nobody knows why.
