Returning to Claghes was supposed to feel like safety.

It did not.

Ten years have passed since Aeriah sent them back, and Marreanne has spent every one of them on the front lines of a war that refuses to end. The West Claghian Sea has become a battleground, the dark realm's forces relentless against the Carrelian port, the continent's last lifeline for trade and supply. With Leiy beside her and Cyrell in her care, Marreanne stands as the only thing between the realm and the tide.

It would be enough, if the tide were all she had to worry about.

Something is moving in the deep water. Not the dark realm's soldiers. Not any creature with a name she recognizes. Something older, patient, and vast, something that has been waiting beneath the Atlean Sea for longer than the war has been going on. And somewhere at the heart of it, a prophecy is pulling toward its completion: when the stars align, something will be summoned that no fleet can face and no guardian can simply outlast.

Marreanne has fought Outworld Gods before. She has stood in the presence of Hastur and walked away.

But this is something else entirely.

The sea does not forgive. It only waits.
