Turns out love is dead, at least for these two. Val meets the love of her after life, a mysterious boy with strange abilities. They're both ghosts and max knows something about her life and can help her move on, but won't until she helps him first.
Max is fading though, once you forget yourself in your life and you havent figured out why you haven't moved on. You disappear.
Max and Val get stuck together to figure out each other's pasts, while figuring it out, they both fall for who they were.
