Kiyomi lives in the quaint, isolated village of Gaon Lu in the Earth Kingdom. Since the end of the 100-year war, everyone bustled about, enjoying their freedom and their daily lives. Without warning, a ferocious band of Fire Nation Deserters attack a neighboring village and take over forcing Kiyomi's village to cower in fear of the inevitable. That is until the Avatar, a blind earth bender, a water bender, and an arrogant boomerang thrower show up on the back of a sky bison.

(This story takes place after the end of the hundred-year war when the ATLA characters are older. Republic City doesn't exist yet.)

Now, she's constantly on the run from the crazy lunatics who murdered the last two Avatars, and who've made it their mission to end the Cycle entirely. In an attempt to finally get her out of their reach, her protectors decide that a time machine is the way to go, and send her back to 130AG, to Republic City to seek mentoring from Avatar Aang himself. There's just one tiny problem. She's thirty years off target. Kiyan decides to wait out the end of the Hundred Years War in a little Earth Kingdom village with the family who's been kind enough to take her in. After all, she's safe there, and she never asked for this whole Avatar deal anyway. Unfortunately, fate has other plans, and her masterful strategy for avoiding danger is thrown into chaos with the arrival of a familiar scarred swordsman.
