Mark's past relationship isn't something he likes to dwell on for too long, for a lot of reasons. If anyone asks why, he tells them that it ended badly, that he wasn't what she wanted.
While that's true, he knows it has a lot more to do with how often he wakes up in a blind panic, how dirty he feels after thinking about her, and how she seems to haunt him years later.
