"History is a house with many rooms." The past has always had a great hold on Harlow. But in a grim present where the nature of truth is duplicitous, the past can be a dangerous thing. Barred from academia for a controversial thesis, she awaits the oblivion of the future. That is, until a former professor offers her a chance for further research "off the books." She is not to know the nature of this research. She cannot ask questions. There is a place in the state known as former Sweden. A house, where history unfolds. A nexus, where two worlds meet. Here, along with a team of rogue physicists, linguists, historians, and poets, Harlow finds herself living not one life, but two. In one she is an outlaw. In the other she is an alien. In both she is in grave danger. But her desire for freedom drives her, and her unexpected ties to an ever silent man bind her to this unfamiliar place. To survive, she must fight for what she believes in. Her battle for truth will echo across time.

Ever since she could remember, the experiments had been part of her life. As a child, they were harmless-just puzzles and strange potions given to her by the woman she called Mother. Back then, she believed it was all a game, a way to make her smarter, stronger. But as she grew, the tests changed. They became invasive. Painful. Each experiment carved new scars into her skin and left her mind tangled in unanswered questions. The woman she once trusted had become a stranger, her warmth replaced by cold calculation. And then the voices started. A shadow lurked within her, whispering, clawing at the edges of her sanity. She wasn't alone in her own body-something else had been forced inside her. Something ancient. Something hungry. Now, she's free... but for how long? With the past chasing her and the monster inside threatening to take control, she's left with one question: Was she ever meant to survive, or was she only meant to become something else?
