Camille Settlemeyer’s life revolves around two great natural wonders—Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth, and Matt Everest, the boy she’s been in love with ever since they met at rock climbing camp five years ago. She might have to wait a few more years before her parents let her fly off to Nepal to scale the world’s tallest summit, but this summer Camille’s going to hit the road with Matt for one last climbing expedition before they part ways for college.

Camille is convinced that a couple days alone with Matt in a beat-up van will make him realize they’re destined to be together. What she doesn’t account for is Matt bringing along his best friend from climbing camp, Tucker O’Hara, who possess an encyclopedic knowledge of the constellations and a sense of humor drier than the sprawling Arizona desert. Camille doesn’t like how much of a know-it-all Tuck is, or how his gorgeous older sister seems to steal every last bit of Matt’s attention. But Camille’s about to learn that even the best climbers need a compass sometimes.

There is an unexpected turn in the story that drastically changes the course of events and, in the long run, even the lives of those involved. Magpie, the first to be involved, suddenly finds himself in the world so unlike his own. Will he find his place there or will he be at least able to go back home? He seems to find his way back from this new world of giga-dimensions but something unwanted happens, and things go worse. The cultural differences, together with a challenging personality traits of another involved in the events, suck Magpie and his friends into a downward spiral. The story challenges you to see the world differently from the perspective you are perhaps too used to and narrowed by. Life can be an adventure if you don't narrow it with a bigotry that forces you to be rooted in your trenches and behind your dividing walls. This doesn't mean you have to accept others' views without standing your ground. However, to be able to share our lives in this one and only world we need to make compromises, on both sides. Are you the first brave one to set this positive trend in motion? So read on and let the foundation of the story be laid. From the end of episode 1 on, the story really picks up, finally reaching its climax at the end of episode 3 with quite a surprising finish. Your participation in solving this shared challenge of coexistence and cooperation is highly appreciated. Remember those who cooperate make more progress than those who don't! The ideal audience for my first book is actually between 12 and 16, but anybody older and interested in adventures, cultures and in getting more understanding into our multifaceted world is sure to enjoy the story. (The whole story has now been published, the only thing I'll still add is the final epilogue but the story is already available in its entirety.)

I have originally written this story for NaNoWriMo 2015, and even posted it under a different name and modified to be a fanfiction. I've decided now to publish it as it was originally intended to. Bobbi is an enthusiastic mountaineer who loves the outdoors more than anything. But just before she turns sixteen she decides to climb one of the most difficult mountains there is. The experience is a game changer and she returns home to her family where she has to deal with the aftermath of what happened on the mountain, as well as trying to fit into the high school world drama that is her life now. She is socially awkward and a bit of a freak, but at the same time everyone wants to know the new girl. She falls in love with the school's hottest guy, Sam, at least in her opinion, and to her surprise the feeling is mutual. They soon discover the real people they both keep from the outside world, realizing that opening up to someone can be both liberating but also make one vulnerable. Bobbi's world is turned upside down when life strikes again. The hardship she felt on the mountain is tenfold and Bobbi feels like drowning. Her only way back to her former self is by returning to what she once loved: mountain climbing. Mature for language and some sexual scenes. Copyright © 2015 Christina Wind. All rights reserved.
