Your pyrokinetic powers didn't manifest themselves until you were nearly 21. Prior to that, you knew that you were resistant to flames but you had not trained your pyrokinetic abilities because you didn't see a need to. At 17 you decided you wanted to become a nurse and work in a hospital because you wanted to help people heal and feel better.
