When Cecilia dies giving birth to a baby girl Isabelle, her husband Edward sends the baby to his sister Rose . Rose and her husband Price gladly take her in. Because they can't have children, they adopt Isabella as their own little daughter. After Isabella’s coming out ball at 16, society looks down on Edward for not keeping his daughter in his own house. So he demands she move back to his estate. Unwanted by her biological father, Isabella spends most of her free time in the gardens behind her rooms, which she had been told belonged to her mother. On her 17 birthday, her brothers demand a birthday dinner for her. After a lot of arguing, their father finally agrees, but to his own advantages. He only has one goal, to marry her off to the richest bachelor of London, Duke James DuBonnet of Rosenshire. James doesn’t think much of the idea, until he remembers where he had seen her before. At her coming out ball they had talked, and he had been quite enchanted by her, but what if she does not return his feelings?

I want to tell you a tale, of a handsome prince meeting a beautiful young maiden. The moment their eyes met; they knew that they were in love. It was a love that would transcend all earthly bounds. A rare love that not even the courtliest poet could give justice too. It was pure beauty. Their meeting could not have come at a more unfortunate moment. For no sooner did their eyes meet, that the bishop declared the prince married to his new bride. I witnessed the stolen moment that would seal the fate of an entire kingdom. I am not the hero of this story... I am the villain.
