Many years into the future the world has came together again, creating peace and harmony around the globe, until the War started. The further you get away from the Capitol in Sydney the poorer and more rural the land becomes.
Seven months till the war is over and the world will be consumed the government starts to get desperate. Getting recruits from every place and sending them out to war. All die and none has yet to succeed.
Avis Whitley lives peacefully in Whitby, England with her adoptive family. Her fear of being drafted slowly creeps up on her as time grows on and she imagines her death over and over again in her dreams. When the leader of Normont brings her nightmares into reality she slowly becomes fearless. Avis becomes drafted in her family and Jolen goes with her, starting their journey to the War.
When they get sent into war they have a group of five people and Avis's group is called
The Intrepid Five.

He wasn't sure how his parents would react if their second child was reaped, just as their first had been. Aren's sister had been reaped 10 years prior, for the 58th games, and she didn't make it past the first 24 hours. He worried if his own name was drawn his fate would be similar. In such a world, tributes are pulled from the same pool, and so in addition to being reaped, sometimes you just know you don't have a chance; two boys from District 2 would plow through the rest, and all you can do is cry. ---------------------------------------------------------- She lived in 12 for generations of her family, but not in the filth, nor was she in a family of victors. No. She was the child of peacekeepers; she was trained to fight, in special schools for them, and even her name was only once in the reaping bowl as she grew, no matter what she did. People like her would be 12's future peacekeepers, raised and trained on site for generations of their families to be sure they know all there is to know about the district they'll keep in check. ---------------------------------------------------------- She grew up in 12, in the poorest part of 12. She'd hunt for her family with her friend and would exchange some wild game with the on-and-off boyfriend she had, son of the baker, or her best friend. Her life was hard.
