This is the story of a band of brothers in the midst of a world re-created after a nuclear war. From the days of picking scraps out of alley way garbage cans, to escaping the clutches of a governmental program, to leading a world reborn. The first part is the easiest, a past with no future to see. The second a steady decline into a routine, a fortress underground and no way of seeing better days. The third a paradise finally found, but one that must be fought for. Three stories. Three perspectives. Three separate lives. The dead do not sleep. The dead do not eat. The dead most certainly do not laugh. And the dead do not cry. 6 years have passed since nuclear war broke out, destroying the planet and killing most of the world's population. Different geographical regions have been affected differently, the climate mutating and transforming people into horrific monsters of all kinds. Now humanity must fight to survive amongst literal zombies, vampires, and horrific fungal spores capable of reducing even the strongest to nothing. Emily lives with a small, ragtag group of survivors, her friends before the outbreak occurred. When one of them falls ill, in dire need of medicine, the group is forced to travel to the hospital across town, where they discover something, or rather someone unexpected. Mark was a normal person before the outbreak, before he was bitten by his own father, before everything went to hell in a handbasket. Now he lives under the hospital with his trusty cat Buckwheat, hiding from the daylight and wondering why him, out of all the infected, has to "live" with the curse of sanity after his demise. ~Thank you for the continued love for this series! I was 13 when I began this book, and am now taking the time to go back to completely rewrite it, and maybe just publish someday~ I'm 15 and my name is Astrix. Let's start with that. That seems like an easy thing to start with. Now, let me add in some other details. I live in a zombie apocalypse. Yeah, that's about as enjoyable as I can make it seem. Now let me add in something else. I'm wanted by the CIA for reasons that I don't even know, but I guess I will find out eventually. Maybe somewhere within my story I will figure it out. I'm well known as The Bad Ass for reasons that are kind of obvious once you meet me. Maybe that's why they're after me? Because I'm a Bad Ass? Nope, I doubt that. Well anyways, the answers are out there. Along with the answers to my past. The answer to life even. Maybe it really is 42 but I don't think it would hurt to start looking at one. So here we go. She's never backed away from a challenge before, so why start now? Even if it means "babysitting" a boy that she's known since she was six. The Sweeny brothers, will do ANYTHING to get rid of Bella for good, so that their mother will FINALLY remember that they exist. Besides, battling Bella in the game of wits and pranks has been far more fun than they'll ever let her know. After a year, they still have not come to terms with the fact that she's there to stay. When one normal seeming weekend, begins to slide downhill at a rapid pace, Bella's rocky, mysterious past begins to haunt her, and the rest of her town. Will the Sweenys and the Harkens finally rebuild the bridge that had been torn down in an equally as mysterious strife, or will they revert back to the hatred and loathing they've known for so long? How will one weekend change the lives of these average teenagers forever? *~*~* A/N: I wrote this story as a challenge for myself in December of 2011, I wanted to complete it before the new year. My life was supposed to be normal. You're born, raised by good parents, go to school, make friends, graduate, get a job. You create fun memories, find the love of your life, get married, start a family, grow old, and eventually, you breathe your last. That's what life was supposed to be like for me. But instead, my life turned out to be the opposite of normal. And so it was for Chiara, Blake, Jake, Rowan, Nova, and Dijon. To tell our story, we need to go all the way back to the beginning. Before we were even born. It all started 30 years ago. April 5, 2003. a class got into an accident and when the survivors woke up, they realized something was wrong. they got powers , they got taken by scientist who started calling them the hollows. It took almost a month before they were rescued by Mr. Knight, they got taken to a secret place where they could live peacefully. that's a lie, one of the students wanted revenge and not stay hidden, so the group seperated. Every year another person got powers, and so, the search continued. But there was always one question on mr. Knight mind: Why 12 children the first time, and only one per year after that? And one thing was for sure: whenever someone gained powers, they had to give something up in return. It was never a choice. It was just the way it was. So, now that I've explained a bit about how this all started, let's fast forward to the present. It's now 2033. Mr. Knight has found 19 children, and Mr. Douglas, the leader of the other group, has found 10. That means... the 30th child is out there somewhere. Who will it be? And one more thing before I go-welcome to the world of Dark Light.

It's a bit harder than I thought to find a story where the heroes have to deal with long term consequences. Most stories seem to like; short choices, short consequences, and everyone is left wondering what will happen years later. It isn't as realistic to have a story just, END. That would feel too "staged." Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. So what about this story is so different from the others? Well in this book, now, this SERIES, I decided to focus on how the past is impacting the present. It could be big decisions like going to war or not, or it could be small, like simply forgetting to tell your friend thanks every now and then. This is a story that takes place after my main series, one that I am still working on :} It is kind of a finale clincher, but at the same time, it is only the next chapter, the next stage one might call it. However, I made sure to write this in a way so that you have to pay attention to find out how things connect. All in all, this is a story, a series, about dealing with the mistakes of the past. Just about everyone has made a mistake that comes to affect this book. This series of books. It wasn't bad enough that Ben was homeless. Having a dead family nearly killed him before. Until he learned to live alone on the docks and streets, scavenging for food and supplies just to stay alive. He was actually doing well. Then, he saw the bodies washed up on the beach.
