Caused by unrequited love.
As the victim watches the person they are in love with fall for someone else they slowly begin losing their memories of them,
It begins with small things, like their birthday or favourite colour and progresses quickly.
As their memories disappear their health deteriorates, the final stage before death is the total loss of memory of the other.
