Hashirama has never had a soulmate. From the minute he was born his soulmates name has been blurred. Eventually he had to get married and have kids but he never truly loved any of them.
Naruto has always been the outsider having the 9-tailed fox sealed inside him and his soulmate mark being blurred. He thought that if he were able to have a soulmate mark he may be able to finally fit in but his plans were ruined.
They meet each other at the worst of times and everyone wonders how this will work.
