samuel golbach, aka sam, is hard of hearing due to a genetic mutation that is familial. thankfully, he can still speak words and they make sense. he had accommodations at school since kindergarten. he now is in sophomore year of high school and for the first time, he is asked to join one class that is not in a small room away from everyone else. he obliges and takes a math class because he likes math. he meets colby, an outcast like him, and life takes an unexpected turn. for the first time, he has a friend which blossoms into something more beautiful.
