Two different shades of detective. Dianthea is a cop who can't hack it, and Malyssa is a detective who couldn't hack it as a cop.

Drinking whiskey in her office the day after Halloween, Detective "Fog" Malyssa Alafoggiannis finds the body of a senator on her floor - with the bullet wounds magically repaired. It's a pattern of magic use Detective Fog has seen before - and as she expects, by the time the real police arrive a minute later, the body straight up disappears.
