It's been over a year since the outbreak, and things have begun to settle down. Most of the east coast is safe, with California and Washington on the rise. Though humans have not won the war against the infected; yet. 

While society is somewhat restored in certain states, Shirley finds herself in a predicament: her father has turned. And he hasn't eaten her. So she travels with dad from North Carolina to Florida, where her grandmother resides, all while outrunning infected, and uninfected, people who want to kill her zombie father -- and her.
