It's been over a year since the outbreak, and things have begun to settle down. Most of the east coast is safe, with California and Washington on the rise. Though humans have not won the war against the infected; yet.
While society is somewhat restored in certain states, Shirley finds herself in a predicament: her father has turned. And he hasn't eaten her. So she travels with dad from North Carolina to Florida, where her grandmother resides, all while outrunning infected, and uninfected, people who want to kill her zombie father -- and her.

Between 2004 and 2008 I wrote a series of "Tips for Writers" for Nocturnal Ooze magazine vaguely about what would happen in real life if you did the things they do in movies but mostly about the gross out. The Silver Death
The last two years of Hazel's life have been miserable. And now she's thriving on her own. How ironic that the spring after she turns eighteen, she is surviving without her only remaining family members - her mother and brother. All she wants is to get by and find some pigeons or a fat rat - anything without a name she can eat before she starves to death in What's-Left-of-Los-Angeles, California. Because I don't care what you say, she's NOT eating humans. It's gross. Levon's weird and has a funny voice. Or maybe it just sounds funny when he hears it. Everyone's voice is funny when they hear it recorded, right? Anyway, he's like one of the only people who hasn't turned into a zombie since the outbreak, and even he has no idea how that happened. He thinks it's gross to eat people too. But he also thinks it's gross to eat pigeons and rats, so there's that. And now that they've found each other in the wasteland, Levon's plan is to carry Eve with him across the country to the army shelter in New York that totally exists and will save them both. Eve's plan is to keep her eyes from rolling into her skull every time Levon opens his mouth.Complete
