Patricia is a girl who lives in an asylum for girls from wealthy, unloving families along with Peter, her imaginary tree-friend. She's been there for as long as she can remember, and all she dreams about is the majesty of the wondrous outdoors. After preparing herself for this scheme, Patrica plans her escape, executes it, and then runs away from the asylum and into the woods she's always dreamed about. With the help of new friends, both imaginary and real, Patricia rides along the winding river that is her new life.
