There exists in the sea a dangerous group of pirates, known far and wide. The Shadows. Each of the crew have code names. The Wraith's Shadow. The Moon's Shadow. Hell's Shadow. Our darling protagonist, Drucinnia, has a passion for them. Her family keeps her locked away until they need her Gifts, so she finds different things to focus on, reading any book she can get her hands on. Just until she manages to escape, using that knowledge. Just until she meets up with the pirates she has learned so much about.
This is inspired by a clip from Maris McKay's Women of Kern.

For the fae, magic is everything: status, power, wealth, honor. For Vera Reite, a fae born with no magic, it is a shameful reminder that she will never amount to anything.
