I do not own The Hobbit, nor any of its characters - they belong to their rightful owners (J.R.R. Tolkien and Peter Jackson (where applicable)).
This story was inspired by the three-part story Nathalie_95 wrote for imaginexhobbit.tumblr.com (it's a three part drabble for the imagine: 'Imagine Fili and Kili befriending you so they can play matchmaker to Thorin' - and it is one of my favorites).
The Hayward Rose is set in an AU where *Possible Spoiler Alert* Thorin, Fili, and Kili actually survive the BOTFA (don't say that I didn't warn you).
When I read the aforementioned story by Nathalie_95, I began to wonder what might happen after the BOTFA and Thorin and the central character become betrothed.
After toying with the idea for a few days and figuring out how to write it, this story was born! I hope you enjoy it!

"So you've fallen in love with a dwarf?" "What?! No!" When Gandalf came to Mirkwood with a quest of reclaiming Erebor, Alithia Thranduillell couldn't resist the thrill of an adventure. Without a word to anyone, not even her overprotective father, she ran away from home to join the Company of Thorin Oakenshield. After all, it was only to help them reclaim Erebor. Little did she know, a certain blond haired dwarf would come into her life and change it. Being the next in line for the throne after his uncle, Fili had a duty. He had to fight by his uncle's side to reclaim Erebor, their home. That was it. The last thing he expected from joining the quest was meeting an elf maiden and falling for her more and more with each passing day. But there was one problem: Thorin hated elves. There was no way in hell that he was going to allow his heir to fall for one. *All characters belong to J.R.R Tolkien. All rights reserved to him. Alithia is the only one I created. PREQUEL TO HOBBIT Richard Armitage: About Thorin [I would ask Tolkien] "Was there ever a lost love?" Because he seems to be someone who is so without that kind of personal love. And I sort of did create that for myself in the biography; that maybe there was somebody - a princess or someone - in Erebor that got lost when the dragon came. Because he doesn't really have that romantic relationship in his life. Fanfic about what happend before the dragon took over Erebor. A love story between a young dwarf prince of Erebor and a dwarf princess of Ered Mithrin. THIS STORY is absolutely fictional. It is based upon Tolkien and Peter Jackson, but it is my free interpretation of what might have happend in Thorin's life. I just wanted to give myself and you guys a proper love story (and some smut) about our loveliest majestic dwarf king. You also joined the adventure although your brother told you not to go, but the thing is you can't let your poor baby's go on an dangerous adventure alone. You know they aren't your little boys anymore but a mother still thinks their child is still a baby. The dwarves traveled to moria but when you camped your water broke and that's when Fili was born and in The battle of Azanulbizar started, Kili was six months in your stomach. But in the battle your husband's life was taken by azog. It wasn't easy for you, especially raising one baby son and one on the way. but Thorin was there to help you. After your husband's death you knew you'd never fall in love again until a certain Hobbit came into your life. (The first movie will sadly not be the extended version, but the others are the extended version.)
