Crime and justice are eternally fated to go hand in hand. A hundred years ago, society saw the rise of the first exhumans, evolutionary miracles that could alter themselves and the world around them in unnatural ways. They were praised as superheroes. But inevitably, where the light goes, shadows follow. In an attempt to quell rising levels of villainy across the nation, governments have given heroes their official support. Enter Ariel Hayes, a sixteen-year-old attending her third year at the Northwest Academy for Exhumans. Ever since she was a little girl, Ariel has dreamed of being a superhero, desperate for the chance to save others just as she had been saved herself. ...But not all that glitters is gold. When Arial finds herself falling for a villain, the pure and righteous life she envisioned for herself begins to crumble away- and what lies beneath it may be a tragedy too harsh for any human to bear.
