Vera Morningstar's family died when she was only ten years old, and in a way, she died too. She never knew who she was. Her aunt Evelin Alverez was her guardian, yet once Vera turned thirteen years old, Evelin began traveling and would only come home twice a month. She's even threatened Vera that she'd send her to rehab but Vera still wouldn't stop. But one day Evelin gets promoted and she and Vera have to move to Oregon, which meant Vera had a fresh start and she could be anything she wanted to be. At Vera's new school she meets a boy named Marvolo Salvatore, who was known as a bookworm which meant he was bait for the douchey football players. Throughout this story, Marvolo tries to help Vera overcome her addiction and tries to help Vera understand that she's more than what she believes.
