Mer cat dragons, like Ocean, usually live underwater, but having hatched without gills, he has to live on land, where there is no mer cat dragon school. He wishes for an education. He wishes for a pair of loving parents. He wishes for a better life.
In this story, Ocean's step dad does abuse him, but I don't put much details, and I skim over these parts to keep it clean.
