Becker was the sort of town a train could run clear through. An empty place in a nowhere part of America. Not one thing special about it.

Except town troublemaker, Tom Colton. Tom can split himself in two, an inexplicable power he's had since birth that, frankly, comes in handy when his stepdad is being a jerk or school is getting dull as hell. Or when you're trying to shake a car that's been following you for the last two weeks, and you don't know why.

It's the start of his sophomore year of high school, and this car is about to show Tom that he's not alone. Four other kids with four other powers are being followed. Golden boy Cassidy Argos, know-it-all Crystal Kern, wallflower Jase Geary, class comic relief Brian Poins - they couldn't be more different. But with their closest-held secrets now bared, they join forces to follow the car that's been following them. Down a dark path they go through failed classes, missing persons, interrogation rooms, and psychological horrors, until this mysterious antagonist forces them to harness the powers they've been hiding their whole lives and become the superheroes they were always meant to be.
