She was left orphaned after her father killed her mother and disappeared in the dead of night, leaving the infant in the care of her older brother, who was just a child himself.
The other villagers didn't trust the children, they feared they would turn out like their father, especially the boy, who was an exact copy of the man.
They made sure the children had food, but they did not want them in their homes.
