Aube Sombre, z francuskiego znaczy to ''Mroczny Świt'' . Opowieść rodem ze średniowiecznej literatury gotyckiej, która swoje początki miała we Francji, stąd także tytuł. 
Akcja powieści nie dzieje się jednak we Francji, lecz w Anglii, jednak dokładne miejsce nie jest znane.

Opowiada ona o Hrabii, który na skutek swej niegościnności i szyderstwa z biedniejszych potraktowany zostaje klątwą, zamieniając się przy tym w wampira. Tajemnicze zachowanie Hrabiego zauważać zaczyna jego ukochana, Emilia.
