Tara has always had a fascination with the changed ones--creatures that were once human. But when her best friend Keenan is changed before her eyes, Tara's world becomes inexorably intertwined with theirs.
In her search for answers, she becomes acquainted with an older woman who just might know what these creatures are and how they came to be. The more Tara finds out about the Changed Ones, the more she finds out about herself and a past she was previously unaware of. With her growing knowledge, Tara is issued one warning--to not go looking for the Changed Ones.
But Tara has already decided it's an instruction she can't obey. Because she loves them. And she is their only hope.
