Answers From The Past is the sequel to Catherine's Cadeau, an historical novel set in colonial America. Monique LeBlanc, the main character, learns about her Acadian heritage from her professor, David Broussard. When Monique's cousin Michelle and her husband Jacques are the featured performers at a summer concert in Nova Scotia, Monique goes there with them. She brings a picture of her late mother, Catherine, to take to Grand-Pre Park when when she visits there. Her mother, before her death, had often talked about visiting the place where thousands of their Acadian ancestors were declared prisoners of the British Crown and deported from their homelands. Monique visits the Park, and there she meets an elderly priest, Father Allain. He takes her back to 1755, where she lives in Grand-Pre and lives through the deportation and exile of her people. The reader goes back and forth from the present, where there is a massive search for Monique, and the past, where her tragic past life unfolds.
