LOVE POEM (DHOLUO)

This is a love poem that has been published in Luo language. The persona narrates how his mother and grandmother played a role in shaping up his future love's life. The grandmother compares love with a cloth used almost daily. It smells nicely when new and the owner may not feel easy leaving it. It's like a wash and ware; where you wash it and put it on because you can't go without it.

As time goes by, it gets torn and loses its nice smell. But because you love it, you find a way of making it to still be part of you. When it can no longer hide your nakedness, you turn it to a mopper; just to always see it because you love it.

When you find a lover, you will feel good and happy. With time, the closeness might be diminished but you still have to make everything work so as to be with the one you love. A lot of challenges and turf times will be part of you, but if you love each other, you will have to find ways to be together always.
