Balak

Many people have asked me why I chose "Balak" as my book's title. My answer is simple: using the words "poems" or "poetry" is too common. I also didn't want to use "tula" (the Tagalog word for poem), but I still wanted a touch of Filipino dialect. I translated "poem" into Cebuano (a dialect spoken in Cebu province, Philippines) and found the word "balak." While it means "plan" in Tagalog, it means "poem" in Cebuano.

This book contains my poems, although some were co-written. I will credit those who helped, but I will not name them.
