"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward."

Trigger warning for this whole book and I wont be putting trigger warning in these chapters so just don't read it if you get triggered by these topics:

Abuse of any kind
self harm
suicidal thoughts

oh and baby disclaimer: I use some quotes from fighters, musicians, and just random people and dont credit them but that's just because I change up their words and/or dont know who said it

Hell, he never imagined becoming anything due to the fact of things he had to do. Blacking out when he lost his virginity is not even the icing on the cake. Bryan Phillips was a complete mess, that is until he heard those two words most teenage boys don't want to hear, "I'm pregnant." His life immediately changed and he was working towards doing better until his child's life was threatened. It's all thanks to his good for nothing parents that he's in the predicament he is in now. That's why he is standing near the underground fighting ring ready to get his ass handed to him. Somehow he lands a punch on the notorious Grayson Miller, who is feared by most in the unground fighting ring. "I'm so dead Benny, what the fuck was I thinking?" Bryan whispers to his best friend. "Your puny ass will be dead within a week here." Grayson glares at the man. But is surprisingly impressed by the punch Bryan delivered to him. "I don't have a choice, I rather it be me than my daughter." He has no idea why he just told this stranger that. Or why he gets a sense of familiarity around this intimidating man. But no matter what he won't back down. For some strange reason Grayson wants to help him, but will not let Bryan know it. "Your funeral, meet me here tomorrow at ten am and I will show you how to properly fight." Grayson also has ulterior motives to helping Bryan out. Little did they both know that they shared a history that will soon come to light once training begins. How they will deal with that history is anyone's guess. Copyright © 2022 All rights reserved. BEWARE, this is the very bad version I wrote when I was 15 years old but I did rewrite it now that I'm 20 and I promise that one makes much more sense! New version is called At All Costs you can find it on my profile! What I see in the mirror is nothing special. I see a girl with dark brown almost black hair, with brown eyes that have been dull for years. I sigh and raise my shirt so I can see the bruises from my opponent last night. If you haven't guessed yet I am a street fighter and a good one at that. I fight in a place called The Underground where my manager Smith sets up my fights. Although I'm only 5'3, I still only fight with men. For me that means more money that I win. Did I mention I am undefeated at The Underground? No, well I am and almost everyone places their bets on me. Or should I say placed because me and my family are moving across the country to New York which means I have to find a new place to fight and make money. That was really my only problem with moving because I don't have any friends here, it's not like people haven't tried I just don't like getting to close to people. Although my family still doesn't know about my street fighting, we still are very close after what happened with my father. They left but I know they will come back and finish what they started and that's why I started street fighting. I need to be able to protect me and my family when they do come back. I'm not letting my family get hurt this time.

"Eli! Seriously this is ridiculous let me down!" I yell as I pound furiously on his back. "Not a chance. And don't ever wear something like that to a fight again." "It's just a tank top calm down. Can you please let me down? Your butt is in my face." "All the better for the view. Every pig in there was undressing you with their eyes." "Oh why do you even care?" Suddenly my upside down world got flipped and pinned between the wall and his body. "Because I'm the only one that should get to think of you like that." His piercing grey eyes were on fire as he held his face just above mine. "Did you drink before your fight? Because there is no way you mean what you just implied. " His tongue flickered across his lips as he smirked. "For once in your life stop fighting and just enjoy this." "Enjoy wha-" His lips crashed onto mine. Hungry, alive, full of passion I had only seen him use in the ring. I didn't want to fight him, fight this, fight his kiss. And he was right, for once in my life, I didn't. **** A Fighter is not born. A fighter is not raised. A fighter is made; only if the fight choses you, and you survive. Dakota Matthias has earned the right to be called a fighter. Her greatest opponent is perhaps the only man in her corner. But fighters are always competitive with each other, on every level. And Eli may just be the fire she needs to win her biggest fight, and give into his. Fight for your Family. Fight for Love. Fight for Yourself. Nyctophilia (n.) -love of darkness or night. finding relaxation or comfort in the darkness --- Life isn't always easy. Sure there's some ups, but there's also downs. My life went downhill real fast the day I lost my voice. The day I stopped talking to any human being. The day that all of it changed the entire way around. I honestly thought I'd stay that way forever... you know, quiet, introverted, sad, but mostly scared. Until I met him. Until he came and changed everything for the best without even knowing it. --- Nyctophilia Heather Walker used to be a ray of sunshine. The kind of person who put a smile on your face with one single glance. Surely, her life was too perfect to be real. Everything got ruined that one night. Since, she hasn't pronounce a word or even communicated with someone who isn't family or best friend. Since... she hates the world. She despises it. Until he comes along. Until he opens a door for Nyctophilia. A door that leads to something she hadn't believed in for years. A door towards hope. Aaron Christopher Black aka your typical underground fighter. Tall, muscular, extremely handsome, but mostly scary. His glare could kill someone easily. He could snap your bone in two without even trying. He is the guy your parents warned you about. Nonetheless, everyone has a reason to their actions, right? No one really knows why he's so cold and mysterious... until she comes in the decor. Ah, will the big bad guy be able to resist to sweet Nyctophilia or will he be whipped so easily no one would believe he really is terrifying? --- ⚠️TW⚠️ This book can contain really sensitive subjects such as self-harm, rape, self-sabotage, eating disorder, depressed thoughts, strong languages and such. I will not put a trigger warning at each chapter, so read at your own risk. I warned you, if you're still reading and it triggered you, it is not on my part anymore.
