There was once a cherry blossom tree in a secret park in New York; the only cherry blossom tree in the park. Since the park the tree was located in was secret, only a handful of people knew about it, including two young children named Jess and Jay, who became best friends because of the lovely cherry blossom tree.

Benjamin and Lucy had a friendship that has lasted since they were children in elementary school. The first-grade project is what brought them together but a bond within the cherry blossom trees is what made them inseparable. However, throughout their childhood, a costly war is being fought. A war that is drafting every able-bodied man to fight if they are seventeen or older. As Lucy and Benjamin grow older, they become closer and closer, soon making a promise to always be together regardless of what happens when Benjamin has to fight in a war that he doesn't even want to be a part of.
