In the aftermath of an overpopulated world that was saved by the Storm, everything seems to have been solved. All except the diabolical method of controlling the new population. The Branding, known on the streets as "the Darkening" happens at the start of every year, targeting will-be seventeen year olds. At midnight on new year's eve, their wrists are branded with color-coded tattoos, each with a different meaning.
Olivia and her friends are just a gaggle of messed up teens, whose families are each other. They know what is going to happen, but they aren't prepared. Not in the least bit. Olivia has to watch as her friends are marked a safe green, or labeled red for assasination. But she can't tell them about the purple that is branded onto the skin on her wrist. She can barely believe it herself. Purple is the killer's mark. She is branded a killer. A murderer of her own friends.
There has to be a way to avoid this. All she has to do is find it. But she can't even think straight, so how is she supposed to fix it all on her own?

He feels responsible for getting Shintaro back, but he doesn't know what he's up against. Thankfully, his friends don't let him do it by himself. As always, they have his back. And soon, new friends are there behind him, too. The group finds that Moon is behind all of this, but she isn't doing it for herself.
