Something fated doesn't have to feel that way at first. It doesn't have to strike like an arrow sinking into the red of a bullseye or a lightning bolt scorching the earth. It can be a moment where you look at someone and recognize there's something different, with a certainty like you've always known. The moment can fade, be naturally overcome by other things. But it will return every time you look. There's the tiniest hint of a romantic in me, a part that instinctively warms at the thought that there's a special, irreplaceable person that I'll be drawn towards. If someone like that existed, my first thought would be that he's human. Life does have a way of messing with expectations. ~~~ Warning: this story does contain instances of foul language and depictions of violence

A human orphan: Melody Winters grew up in the system; shuffled from foster home to foster home, and none of them kind. Now eighteen she finds herself booted from the not so tender mercies of the state and thrust upon the even harder mercies of the streets until she meets Endymion. He's proper, rich, everything she's learned to hate and fear. He won't leave her alone. An Ancient Werewolf: Endymion was a king among his kind once, and he still lives like one. Secluded away in his own private land, he graces the world with his presence once every hundred years to keep up with the world. On this particular sojourn he finds the one thing he never thought he'd have. His mate: Melody Winters. Only she isn't what he'd imagined he'd want in a female. She's tough, cusses like a sailor on a bad day, and wants nothing at all to do with him. Will they come together like the werewolf species needs them to, or will they self-destruct?
