They say we're made up of many parts-some good, some bad-and that a healthy mind can hold this contradiction, balancing both without falling apart. Mental illness, then, might be what happens when that balance fails-when we lose touch with the more unpredictable parts of ourselves.

Harry became a psychologist because he was fucked up. In his view, most people in the field were. He believed the desire to understand the mind often came from trying to fix something within yourself first, before even thinking about helping anyone else. That's what had drawn him to the profession. What he hadn't expected was that a new intern would make him question everything he thought he understood.
