This world is divided into two powers:
The Forgotten & The Remembered
The Forgotten, they attain bodies which absorb magic, and they call this power, Fragments. Any Forgotten could use Fragments but no Forgotten could use Fragments the same. 
The Remembered, they attain bodies filled with large amounts of Fragments. Unable to lose them and unable to absorb any more of them. The Fragments the Remembered holds are rather more hallow than what the Forgotten use and this allows the Remembered to store memories of past lives as well as their current lives to rest inside them.
