Some fifteen years after a fungal-like infection swept over the world, turning most of the population into the infected undead, survivors are left to form settlements and nomadic collectives in the remnants of the world they once knew.

Now, brought together by a chance encounter with this world as the backdrop, Quentin-a woman on the run from the cult she was raised within for a crime she refuses to admit-and a young boy, Spencer, must rely unwillingly on one another to survive the journey across the united states if they hope to finally flee the cult members on their heels, and the military force after Spencer for a reason he keeps unspoken.
